Level 5 : Wraparound support
Strategies:
1. It is a good idea to develop a Positive Behavior Support Plan for any student that has trouble learning partly due to their own behaviors. To develop a PBS plan administrators, teacher, and student must work as a team to determine the particular need the student is trying to fill and then devise an effective plan.(Villa, Thousand, & Nevin, 2010) 2. IEPs and 504 plans are not usually created with teacher involvement. However, I think that it is important to let students know within the first week of school that I am aware of their specialized plan and that I intend to work with them and the resource specialists to provide the necessary supports. 3. Bully Prevention. School programs such as Breaking Down the Walls have been shown to better the communities within schools and decrease bullying. 4. The inverted pyramid shown illustrates where Wraparound strategies fit in the school-wide behavior support for all students. Tier 1 most commonly includes proactive classroom management. When a student requires more supports they are eligible for Tier 2. Tier 2 supports are commonly used to confront issues with small groups of students. When a student requires one-on-one interventions, they are eligible for Tier 3, which includes Wraparound support. This means that teachers and families work together in a proactive setting that supports an individual student. (Eber, Hyde, & Suter, 2011)
