Ms. Amely's Classroom Management Plan
Please click on the links above to explore the classroom management strategies I will be using. These strategies and expectations will be communicated to students through the syllabus, posted on classroom walls, and available via this website!
My educational philosophy relates most closely to Progressivism. This philosophy allows students to learn by doing. I feel that the strategies I have set up in Level 1 establish a learning environment in which students feel comfortable and confident to learn by doing. By implementing reoccurring procedures, I will set up a comfortable environment that conduces student participation. Progressivism also supports shared decision making amongst students and teachers. This is another strategy that I will use and it is presented in Level 2 of my classroom management plan. In addition, I feel that by taking breaks throughout the class time to allow peer tutoring, I will be allowing students to learn by doing and providing opportunities for ongoing growth. Also, the strategies that I will be using on Level 2 do not humiliate or disrespect students. Instead, I will hang motivational posters and speak to students privately in order to keep students involved in the learning process. The strategies I selected for Level 3 will help students to be successful in life outside of school. Since Progressivism relies heavily on learning through experience, it is important to prepare students for the experiences we want them to have, not all of which will be easy. Strategies such as P.O.P. and Take a Meta-Moment will provide students with "self-talk" tools that they can use when confronted with many different kinds of problems. Progressivism stresses the importance of the individual experience and the impact it has on learning. This has to do with Levels 4 and 5 of the pyramid which focus on creating individualized plans for students who need additional supports. Progressivists believe that students need to develop tolerance for others. As a Progressive teacher, it will be my duty to be a model of tolerance in my classroom. By being aware of IEPs and 504s and also doing anything within my power to support each student, I will be able to foster the growth of each individual.
