level 4 : somewhere else plan
Strategies:
1. The main strategy pertaining to Level 4 that I plan to implement is being aware and knowledgeable about my students. I will work hard to understand each student's IEP or 504 plan at the beginning of the year and I will remind myself daily of any necessary accommodations. 2. I will discuss the Planning Room with staff and we will collectively decide on the best location. The Planning Room provides a safe place for students to go when they cannot resolve their issue within the classroom. (Villa, Thousand, & Nevin, 2010) 3. Also, I believe it is important to take time to figure out why a student may be acting out. This requires replacing zero tolerance with zero indifference. (Villa, Thousand, & Nevin, 2010) 4. This year I am lucky enough to be in a classroom in which I am one of two co-teachers. Having two teachers in the room is beneficial, especially when it comes to discipline. When necessary, one of the co-teachers may go with a student outside to discuss the issue and allow the student time to regain composure. (Elsbree, 2014) 5. The Visitor's Chair - This will be a chair positioned near my desk, available at any time for students who need to manage their behavior. I can ask a student to take a seat in the visitor's chair and they will understand that they can return to their seat when they feel that they can handle the responsibility of managing their own behavior.
